William Alva

William “Bill” Alva, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully and entered eternal life on March 20, 2012 in Lakewood, Colorado. He was born on April 30, 1926 in Rosebud, Texas to Sostenez M. and Jesusa Alva where he was raised with 11 other siblings. After serving in the Army Air Corp during WWII he moved to Bryan, Texas where he started a Mexican restaurant and began an intense love affair with the Texas Aggies. After he left Bryan, he moved to Dallas and married Barbara McCarley and settled down in Lancaster, Texas. Bill was a very well known and dedicated member of the Lancaster community. He was actively involved with the Lil’ Tigers Football and ran the concessions stand for many years and with little league baseball where he coached. Bill and Barbara also owned Tiger Country Sports Store on the Town Square along with the La Placita restaurant. After several years he ended up in the insurance business where owned his own agency until he had a severe stroke in December of 2002. His daughter Christi along with his wife Barbara cared for him until she passed in 2008. Christi then took him to Colorado with her until he passed. Bill is preceded in death by his lovely wife, Barbara McCarley Alva. His parents, Sostenez M. and Jesusa Alva. Brothers Pete, Henry, Sam, Joe, and John Alva. He is survived by his three children, David King and wife Kathy of Georgetown, Tx., Tommy Alva and wife Stephanie of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., and Christi Alva Surina and husband Bill Surina of Parker, Co. Seven grandchildren, Jennifer Swope and husband Charles, Bryan King and wife Laura, Alex Surina, Austin Surina, Micah Surina, Macarley Surina, and Kaleb Alva. Three great grandchildren Robbie, Katie, and Nikki Swope. He is also survived by four brothers Frank, Fred, Daniel, and Louis Alva and two sisters Geraldine Rosas, and Ernestine Perez. Bill’s faith and trust in the Lord was ever present. He loved and lived for the Lord and instilled this in his children. An absolute wonderful man that will be missed terribly by his family.
