Kenneth Dean Poteet

Memorials may be made to Ellis County SPCA or Bristol Church of Christ (Christian Ministry). Kenneth Dean Poteet, 84, of Red Oak, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2016 in Red Oak, TX. He was born November 22, 1931 to Claude and Lillie Mae Todd Poteet in Healdton, OK. He lived most of his life in Red Oak, TX; Wilson, OK; and Huntington Park, CA. He married Gwendolyn Yvonne Bloominger on November 4, 1961 and they raised four children in Red Oak, TX. He and his brother, Floyd, were co-owners of their welding company. Later he worked at Owens Corning in Waxahachie, Brick Co in Lancaster, and then retired from American Airlines after 25 years. He served in the US Navy, Repair Department, 8th Division, Rank FP2, 1950-1954. Aboard the USS Charles J. Badger DD-657 and USS Howard W Gilmore AS-16. Kenneth was a devoted Husband, Dad, Papa, and friend. He was a faithful Christian and member of the Red Oak Church of Christ. He loved working, repairing everything, fishing, hunting, farming, and his ol’Blue Ford truck. Most of all he loved his family and making people laugh. Kenneth is preceded in death by his two brothers Floyd and R.C. Poteet, his two sisters LaVada Matthews, and Mina McCary; and his grandson Joseph Warner. Kenneth is survived by his wife Gwen Poteet of 54 years, son Charles Poteet, daughter Rhonda Morton, of Red Oak; daughter Debi Warner and her husband Ray of Post Falls, ID; daughter Karen McMillan and her husband William of Bristol, TX. Grandchildren: Bethany, Sarah, Jeremiah, Rebekah, Mark, Jacob Warner all of Post Falls, ID, Elizabeth (and her husband Brian) and Matthew Morton of Red Oak, TX; Melissa, Courtney, Tristan, and Kaelin McMillan all of Bristol, TX. Great Grandchildren: Jayden, Payton, and Nash Buchert of Red Oak, TX. Many cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends who loved him dearly. Pall bearers are grandsons and nephews. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Red Oak Rehab Nursing Home, Hospice Plus, and doctors who took special care of Kenneth in his later years. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Bristol Church of Christ, with his nephew LV McCary officiating. Burial will follow at Bristol Cemetery. Arrangements are by Byrum Funeral Home.
